The Smiffies

August 2001 Trip to Suffolk

Who: The Smiths & Peters

Drive to the Peters & Stayed on Friday Night after a long moving day. Saturday saw a two hour drive to Suffolk, the House & Moat near Halesworth were superb.

The Moat was a great source for fun all week as it was loaded with Roach and Tench.

Floats, catgut, hooks etc were soon purchased - oh and 7' bamboos for rods were bought, assembled and put to use with immediate success. Roach being the most easily caught. Ryan was the first to pull out a Tench following a change in technique.

Trip to Halesworth, Southwold, Dunwich (I saw no bones in the cliff), Snape Maltings, Aldeburgh Woodbridge, Bawdsey and Rendlesham Forest made it a full and fun week for all.

All nine of use swam in the sea at some time or other, Bev found a 'nice' glass lampshade in a junk shop, a pair of earrings and a Trout.

The Clarks Office & Moog Musium. Probably the most photographed building in Aldburge

The fishing Boats. These Boats are launched from and winched back up onto the beach each time they are used.

Fishing from the beach. To Run a fishing & fish mongering business from the beach a lot of 'junk' is needed, the less romantic side of fishing

The boys swam, the girls shopped. (Sorry I forgot you costume Charlotte)

Fantasia. This interesting little house had someone inside while we stood looking & Talking about it.

Watch Tower Houses. There were a few of these building at the edge of the beach

Bawdsey Jetty & Beach. A fine place to go Crabbing

The Act of Crabbing. Bacon is the usual bate for catching green backs or Shore crabs

The Results. About fifty of these were caught, with a fine selection of Hermit crabs in Welk shells to boot

Some Crabbed some Spectated. Some Crabbed and Spectated

Townies on the Beach - What are they like!

City Kids on the Beach

Dunwich Beach, a fine place to swim so we all swam!

I've heard of quick sand, but quick gravel! Red & Ry are the fist to sink

Then Sam, smiling through the ordeal

Followed by Charlie, she looks to be in Real Trouble

Even Jack Three Rings fared no better

Let's get out of here, the only thing to do - Runaway!

The House, we had the right half of the house. Nice house good size rooms, fine surroundings

The Moat, the house was surrounded by a moat, very nice.

The Lounge, large and comfortable, if you don't mined sharing with the Perky Peters!

Our chef prepares breakfast (his dress is a bit casual), a fine breakfast (apart from the scanky eggs)

Mussels -look at the size of um, found these while rescuing my glasses from the Moat - don't ask

Un-invited Guests, our night time visitors, Hornets nesting in the roof
